Booked last minute due to being in location, didn’t not expect much but surprisingly overwhelmed. My firm usually pre books hotel chain, which I refuse to accept. The owner was so welcoming, as the restaurant was closed he gave an excellent recommendation for a local ”non chain” Italian, which was also fantastic. In the morning there was the most overwhelming continental breakfast I have ever tasted. Amazing feast of fresh fruit, cold meats, fresh breads & cheese etc. You would never expect this in a small hotel in February. Didn’t get the opportunity to test the the “egg scrambler”, looked interesting 😀 Hotels chains who package sub standard breakfasts could learn a lot! I’ll not mention any brands, I travel a lot and refuse to to stay at the branded motels, one should support local hospitality. Any other plus - tea (or coffee) was delivered personally in a tea pot with fresh milk, no nonsense using machines in the morning, personal service - so much appreciated - and great Orange juice, not the diluted version. If I’m ever in Colchester again this would be a first choose, hopefully in summer. Would enjoy sitting out in the beer garden

The hotel was clean and very nicely decorated. The room was the same, a nice hot shower. Plenty of tea coffee and biscuits. Staff really friendly, the general manager was superb and very helpful. Just off the High St and I'm pleased. It was minutes away but quiet on a Saturday night when the high street was really busy and noisy. Continental breakfast was lovely and fresh. A very wide range of cereals fruits meats and cheeses as well as pastries and yogurts. Coffee was really nice too.

From the excellent location, good parking, friendly welcome, and comfortable room, i would rate this little gem of an hotel as superb. The bed was very comfortable and the room very clean. I particularly liked the bathroom with the rain shower. Breakfast was the best continental I've ever had. The choice and quality was to die for. I wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy it all. Very good coffee as well, not something you usually find in hotels these days.

Continental breakfast was very good with plenty of wholesome and healthy food - instead of cooked English! Room was lovely and quiet - a little on small side with no wardrobe- but comfy bed and light and airy with good en-suite bathroom. The hotel had real quirkiness and character, as it is over 200 years old. Also nice outside area to sit and smoke/drink in summer.

A really good continental breakfast with plenty of variety. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. They went out of their way to be of assistance. The location is excellent as it is in the centre of the town. The room was very clean and welcoming.
